What is it?

The conjunctiva, the membrane on the white part of the eye, can become inflamed which is known as a conjunctivitis. This is also often termed pink eye.

When the cornea and conjunctiva are both involved, the eye is more painful and red. A red eye this is more likely to be sight threatening.

Allergic Eye

A common cause of pink eye is allergic conjunctivitis which is an allergic reaction of the conjunctiva. The allergic reaction causes the white part of the eye to appear pink and puffy, and often the eyelids can become puffy also.

Keratitis/ Kerato-conjunctivitis

Keratitis is a serious infection/inflammation of the eye's cornea, in severe cases it may threaten vision. With prompt treatment, keratitis can be treated without any long-term complications. You will need to see an optometrist or ophthalmologist for a diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Subconjunctival Haemorrhage

Is a small break in a  blood vessel like a bruise under the conjunctiva. It appears as an area of blood on your eye. The eye looks red but is not painful.
