Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)

Ortho-K is the process whereby a rigid gas-permeable contact lens is applied to the cornea at night (whilst asleep). This reshapes the cornea in such a way that vision is corrected the following day without the use of glasses or daytime contact lenses.

Ortho-K is a very popular modality in children and teenagers to reduce the rate of short-sighted progression by minimising the elongation of the eye during growth. There is growing evidence supporting the use of Ortho-K in myopia management.
